1. "Now, human, get yourself a brick, put it in front of you, and draw a map of Jerusalem on it.

2. Then surround it with an army. Build battle works against the city and a dirt road to the top of the city walls. Set up camps around it, and put heavy logs in place to break down the walls.

2. And lay H5414 siege H4692 against H5921 it , and build H1129 a fort H1785 against H5921 it , and cast H8210 a mount H5550 against H5921 it; set H5414 the camp H4264 also against H5921 it , and set H7760 battering rams H3733 against H5921 it round about H5439 .

3. Then get yourself an iron plate and set it up like an iron wall between you and the city. Turn your face toward the city as if to attack it and then attack. This is a sign to Israel.

Moreover take H3947 thou H859 unto thee an iron H1270 pan H4227 , and set H5414 it for a wall H7023 of iron H1270 between H996 thee and the city H5892 : and set H3559 H853 thy face H6440 against H413 it , and it shall be H1961 besieged H4692 , and thou shalt lay siege H6696 against H5921 it. This H1931 shall be a sign H226 to the house H1004 of Israel H3478 .

4. "Then lie down on your left side, and take the guilt of Israel on yourself. Their guilt will be on you for the number of days you lie on your left side.

4. Lie H7901 thou H859 also upon H5921 thy left H8042 side H6654 , and lay H7760 H853 the iniquity H5771 of the house H1004 of Israel H3478 upon H5921 it: according to the number H4557 of the days H3117 that H834 thou shalt lie H7901 upon H5921 it thou shalt bear H5375 H853 their iniquity H5771 .

5. I have given you the same number of days as the years of the people's sin. So you will have the guilt of Israel's sin on you for three hundred ninety days.

5. For I H589 have laid H5414 upon thee H853 the years H8141 of their iniquity H5771 , according to the number H4557 of the days H3117 , three H7969 hundred H3967 and ninety H8673 days H3117 : so shalt thou bear H5375 the iniquity H5771 of the house H1004 of Israel H3478 .

6. "After you have finished these three hundred ninety days, lie down a second time, on your right side. You will then have the guilt of Judah on you. I will give it to you for forty days, a day for each year of their sin.

6. And when thou hast accomplished H3615 H853 them H428 , lie H7901 again H8145 on H5921 thy right H3233 side H6654 , and thou shalt bear H5375 H853 the iniquity H5771 of the house H1004 of Judah H3063 forty H705 days H3117 : I have appointed H5414 thee each day for a year H3117 H8141 H3117 H8141 .

7. Then you will look toward Jerusalem, which is being attacked. With your arm bare, you will prophesy against Jerusalem.

7. Therefore thou shalt set H3559 thy face H6440 toward H413 the siege H4692 of Jerusalem H3389 , and thine arm H2220 shall be uncovered H2834 , and thou shalt prophesy H5012 against H5921 it.

8. I will put ropes on you so you cannot turn from one side to the other until you have finished the days of your attack on Jerusalem.

8. And, behold H2009 , I will lay H5414 bands H5688 upon H5921 thee , and thou shalt not H3808 turn H2015 thee from one side H4480 H6654 to H413 another H6654 , till H5704 thou hast ended H3615 the days H3117 of thy siege H4692 .

9. "Take wheat, barley, beans, small peas, and millet seeds, and put them in one bowl, and make them into bread for yourself. You will eat it the three hundred ninety days you lie on your side.

9. Take H3947 thou H859 also unto thee wheat H2406 , and barley H8184 , and beans H6321 , and lentils H5742 , and millet H1764 , and fitches H3698 , and put H5414 them in one H259 vessel H3627 , and make H6213 thee bread H3899 thereof, according to the number H4557 of the days H3117 that H834 thou H859 shalt lie H7901 upon H5921 thy side H6654 , three H7969 hundred H3967 and ninety H8673 days H3117 shalt thou eat H398 thereof.

10. You will eat eight ounces of food every day at set times.
|
10. And thy meat H3978 which H834 thou shalt eat H398 shall be by weight H4946 , twenty H6242 shekels H8255 a day H3117 : from time H4480 H6256 to H5704 time H6256 shalt thou eat H398 it.

11. You will drink about two-thirds of a quart of water every day at set times.
|
11. Thou shalt drink H8354 also water H4325 by measure H4884 , the sixth part H8345 of a hin H1969 : from time H4480 H6256 to H5704 time H6256 shalt thou drink H8354 .

|
12. Eat your food as you would eat a barley cake, baking it over human dung where the people can see."

12. And thou shalt eat H398 it as barley H8184 cakes H5692 , and thou shalt bake H5746 it H1931 with dung H1561 that cometh out H6627 of man H120 , in their sight H5869 .

13. Then the Lord said, "In the same way Israel will eat unclean food among the nations where I force them to go."
|
13. And the LORD H3068 said H559 , Even thus H3602 shall the children H1121 of Israel H3478 eat H398 their defiled H2931 H853 bread H3899 among the Gentiles H1471 , whither H834 H8033 I will drive H5080 them.

14. But I said, "No, Lord God! I have never been made unclean. From the time I was young until now I've never eaten anything that died by itself or was torn by animals. Unclean meat has never entered my mouth."

14. 15. "Very well," he said. "Then I will give you cow's dung instead of human dung to use for your fire to bake your bread."

15. Then he said H559 unto H413 me, Lo H7200 , I have given H5414 thee H853 cow H1241 's dung H6832 for H8478 man H120 's dung H1561 , and thou shalt prepare H6213 H853 thy bread H3899 therewith H5921 .

16. He also said to me, "Human, I am going to cut off the supply of bread to Jerusalem. They will eat the bread that is measured out to them, and they will worry as they eat. They will drink water that is measured out to them, and they will be in shock as they drink it.

16. Moreover he said H559 unto H413 me, Son H1121 of man H120 , behold H2009 , I will break H7665 the staff H4294 of bread H3899 in Jerusalem H3389 : and they shall eat H398 bread H3899 by weight H4948 , and with care H1674 ; and they shall drink H8354 water H4325 by measure H4884 , and with astonishment H8078 :

17. This is because bread and water will be hard to find. The people will be shocked at the sight of each other, and they will become weak because of their sin.

17. That H4616 they may want H2637 bread H3899 and water H4325 , and be astonished H8074 one H376 with another H251 , and consume away H4743 for their iniquity H5771 .
