sticks
for
the
fire.
He
was
putting
the
sticks
on

fire,
and
a
poisonous
snake
came
out
because
of
the
heat
and
bit
him
on
the
hand.

When
the
people
living
on

island
saw
the
snake
hanging
from
his
hand,
they
said,
"This
man
must
be
a
murderer!
He
did
not
die
in
the
sea,
but
Justice
does

want
him
to
live."

But
Paul
shook

snake

and
was

hurt.

The
people
thought
he
would
swell
up
or
fall

dead.
They

him

opinion.
They

They
were
owned
by
a
man
named
Publius,
the
most
important
Roman
official
on
the
island.
He
welcomed
us

his
home
and

to
us.

stayed
in
his
house
for

days.

father
was
very
sick.
He
had
a
fever
and
dysentery,
but
Paul
went
to
him
and
prayed
for
him.
He
laid
his
hands
on
the
man
and
healed
him.

After
this
happened,
all
the
other
sick
people
on

island
came
to
Paul,
and
he
healed
them
too.

The
people
on
the
island
gave
us
many
honors.
And
after
we
had
been
there
three
months
and
were
ready
to
leave,
they
provided
us

our
trip.
We
got
on
a
ship
from
Alexandria
that
had
stayed
on
the
island
of
Malta
during
the
winter.
On
the
front
of
the
ship
was
the
sign
for
the

gods.

and
then

to
the

of

found
some
believers
there,
who

us

a

Finally,
we

Rome.

brothers

sisters
in

heard

us

the

and

When
Paul
saw
these
believers,
he
thanked
God
and

encouraged.

When
we
came
to
Rome,
Paul
was
allowed
to
live
alone.
But
a
soldier
stayed
with
him
to
guard
him.

Three
days
later
Paul
sent
for
some
of
the
most
important
Jews.
When
they
came
together,
he
said,
"My
brothers,
I
have
done
nothing
against
our
people
or
against
the
customs
of
our
fathers.
But
I
was
arrested
in
Jerusalem
and
handed
over
to
the
Romans.

They
asked
me
many
questions,
but
they
could
not
find
any
reason
why
I
should
be
put
to
death.
So
they
wanted
to
let
me
go
free.

But
the
Jews
there
did
not
want
that.
So
I
had
to
ask
to
come
to
Rome
to
have
my
trial
before
Caesar.
That
doesn't
mean
I
am
accusing
my
people
of
doing
anything
wrong.

That
is
why
I
wanted
to
see
you
and
talk
with
you.
I
am
bound
with
this
chain
because
I
believe
in
the
hope
of
Israel.

The
Jews
answered
Paul,
"We
have
received
no
letters
from
Judea
about
you.
None
of
our
Jewish
brothers
who
have
traveled
from
there
brought
news
about
you
or
told
us
anything
bad
about
you.

We
want
to
hear
your
ideas.
We
know
that
people
everywhere
are
speaking
against
this
new
group."

Paul
and
the
Jews
chose
a
day
for
a
meeting.
On
that
day
many
more
of
these
Jews
met
with
Paul
at
his
house.
He
spoke
to
them
all
day
long,
explaining
God's
kingdom
to
them.
He
used
the
Law

Moses
and
the
writings
of
the
prophets
to
persuade
them
to
believe
in
Jesus.

of

Jews
believed
what
he
said,
but
others

not
believe.

They
had
an
argument
among
themselves
and
were
ready
to
leave.

said

to
them:
"The

Spirit

through

the
prophet.
He

listen

people

ship
which
had
wintered
in
the
island,
an
Alexandrian
with
an
ensign,
Twin
Brothers.

landing
at
Syracuse,
we
remained
three
days.

Going
around
from
there,
we
arrived
at
Rhegium.
And
after
one
day,
a
south
wind
having
come
on,
on
the
second
we
came
to
Puteoli,

where
finding
brothers,
we
were
begged
by
them
to
remain
seven
days.
And
so
we
went
toward
Rome.

And
the
brothers
from
there
hearing
about
us,
they
came
out
to
meet
us,
as
far
as
the
marketplace
of
Appius,
and
Three
Taverns;
whom
Paul
seeing,
thanking
God,
he
took
courage.

And
when
we
went
into
Rome,
the
centurion
delivered
the
prisoners
to
the
camp
commander.
But
Paul
was
allowed
to
remain
by
himself,
with
the
soldier
guarding
him.

And
after
three
days,
it
happened
that
Paul
called
together
those
being
chief
of
the
Jews.
And
they
coming
together,
he
said
to
them,
Men,
brothers,
I
did
nothing
contrary
to
the
people,
or
to
the
ancestral
customs.
I
was
delivered
a
prisoner
from
Jerusalem
into
the
hands
of
the
Romans,

who
examining
me
were
of
a
mind
to
let
me
go,
because
no
cause
of
death
was
in
me.

But
the
Jews
speaking
against
it,
I
was
compelled
to
appeal
to
Caesar,
not
as
having
anything
to
accuse
my
nation.

On
account
of
this,
then,
I
called
for
you,
to
see
and
to
speak
to
you.
For
I
have
this
chain
around
me
for
the
sake
of
the
hope
of
Israel.

And
they
said
to
him,
We
neither
received
letters
concerning
you
from
the
Jews,
nor
having
arrived
has
any
one
of
the
brothers
reported
or
spoken
anything
evil
concerning
you.

we
think
it
fit
to
hear
from

truly
as
concerning
this

to

fire

us

rain

falling

was

put
it
on
the
