Galatians 2:2 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 After 14 years I went back to Jerusalem with Barnabas and took Titus with me.
2 I went there because God showed me that I should go. I explained to them the message that I tell the non- Jewish people. I also met alone with those who were considered to be the leaders. I wanted to be sure we were in agreement so that my past work and the work I do now would not be wasted.
3 Titus, who was with me, is a Greek. But these leaders still did not force him to be circumcised.
4 We needed to talk about these problems, because some who pretended to be our brothers had come into our group secretly. They came in like spies to find out about the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to make us slaves,
5 but we did not agree with anything those false brothers wanted. We wanted the truth of the Good News to continue for you.
6 Those men who were considered to be important did not change the Good News message I tell people. (It doesn't matter to me if they were "important" or not. To God everyone is the same.)
7 But these leaders saw that God had given me a special work, the same as Peter. God gave Peter the work of telling the Good News to the Jews. But God gave me the work of telling the Good News to the non-Jewish people.
8 God gave Peter the power to work as an apostle for the Jewish people. God gave me the power to work as an apostle too, but for those who are not Jews.
9 James, Peter, and John seemed to be the leaders. And they saw that God had given me this special gift of ministry, so they accepted Barnabas and me. They said to us, "We agree that you should go to those who are not Jews, and we will go to the Jews."
10 They asked us to do only one thing—to remember to help those who are poor. And this was something that I really wanted to do.
11 When Peter came to Antioch, he did something that was not right. I stood against him, because he was wrong.
12 This is what happened: When Peter first came to Antioch, he ate and associated with the non-Jewish people. But when some Jewish men came from James, Peter separated himself from the non-Jews. He stopped eating with them, because he was afraid of the Jews who believe that all non-Jewish people must be circumcised.
13 So Peter was a hypocrite. The other Jewish believers joined with him, so they were hypocrites too. Even Barnabas was influenced by what these Jewish believers did.
14 They were not following the truth of the Good News. When I saw this, I spoke to Peter in front of everyone. I said, "Peter, you are a Jew, but you don't live like one. You live like someone who is not a Jew. So why are you trying to force those who are not Jewish to live like Jews?"
15 We are Jews by birth. We were not born "sinners," as we call those who are not Jews.
16 But we know that no one is made right with God by following the law. It is trusting in Jesus Christ that makes a person right with God. So we have put our faith in Christ Jesus, because we wanted to be made right with God. And we are right with him because we trusted in Christ— not because we followed the law. I can say this because no one can be made right with God by following the law.
17 We Jews came to Christ to be made right with God, so it is clear that we were sinners too. Does this mean that Christ makes us sinners? Of course not.
18 But I would be wrong to begin teaching again those things that I gave up.
19 It was the law itself that caused me to end my life under the law. I died to the law so that I could live for God. I have been nailed to the cross with Christ.
20 So I am not the one living now—it is Christ living in me. I still live in my body, but I live by faith in the Son of God. He is the one who loved me and gave himself to save me.
21 I am not the one destroying the meaning of God's grace. If following the law is how people are made right with God, then Christ did not have to die.

3 But G235 CONJ neither G3761 ADV Titus G5103 N-NSM , who G3588 T-NSM was with G4862 PREP me G1698 P-1DS , being G5607 V-PXP-NSM a Greek G1672 N-NSM , was compelled G315 V-API-3S to be circumcised G4059 V-APN :
4 And G1161 CONJ that because G1223 PREP of G3588 T-APM false brethren G5569 N-APM unawares brought in G3920 A-APM , who G3748 R-NPM came in privily G3922 V-2AAI-3P to spy out G2684 V-AAN our G3588 T-ASF liberty G1657 N-ASF which G3739 R-ASF we have G2192 V-PAI-1P in G1722 PREP Christ G5547 N-DSM Jesus G2424 N-DSM , that G2443 CONJ they might bring us into bondage G2615 V-AMS-3P :

6 But G1161 CONJ of G575 PREP these G3588 T-GPM who seemed G1380 V-PAP-GPM to be G1511 V-PXN somewhat G5100 X-NSN , ( A-NPM whatsoever G3697 A-NPM they were G2258 V-IXI-3P , it maketh no matter G1308 V-PAI-3S to me G3427 P-1DS : God G2316 N-NSM accepteth G2983 V-PAI-3S no G3756 PRT-N man G444 N-GSM \'s person G4383 N-ASN : ) for G3588 T-NPM they who seemed G1380 V-PAP-NPM to be somewhat in conference added G4323 V-2AMI-3P nothing G3762 A-NSN to me G1698 P-1DS :

11 But G1161 CONJ when G3753 ADV Peter G4074 N-NSM was come G2064 V-2AAI-3S to G1519 PREP Antioch G490 N-ASF , I withstood G436 V-2AAI-1S him G846 P-DSM to G2596 PREP the face G4383 N-ASN , because G3754 CONJ he was G2258 V-IXI-3S to be blamed G2607 V-RPP-NSM .

13 And G2532 CONJ the G3588 T-NPM other G3062 A-NPM Jews G2453 A-NPM dissembled likewise with V-API-3P him G846 P-DSM ; insomuch that G5620 CONJ Barnabas G921 N-NSM also G2532 CONJ was carried away with G4879 V-API-3S their G3588 T-DSF dissimulation G5272 N-DSF .
14 But G235 CONJ when G3753 ADV I saw G1492 V-2AAI-1S that G3754 CONJ they walked not uprightly G3716 V-PAI-3P according G4314 PREP to the G3588 T-ASF truth G225 N-ASF of G3588 T-GSN the G3588 T-GSN gospel G2098 N-GSN , I G3588 T-DSM said G2036 V-2AAI-1S unto Peter G4074 N-DSM before G1715 PREP them all G3956 A-GPM , If G1487 COND thou G4771 P-2NS , being G5225 V-PAP-NSM a Jew G2453 A-NSM , livest G2198 V-PAI-2S after the manner of Gentiles G1483 ADV , and G2532 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N as do the Jews G2452 ADV , why G5101 I-ASN compellest G315 V-PAI-2S thou the G3588 T-APN Gentiles G1484 N-APN to live as do the Jews G2450 V-PAN ?
15 We G2249 P-1NP who are Jews G2453 A-NPM by nature G5449 N-DSF , and G2532 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N sinners G268 A-NPM of G1537 PREP the Gentiles G1484 N-GPN ,
16 Knowing G1492 V-RAP-NPM that G3754 CONJ a man G444 N-NSM is not G3756 PRT-N justified G1344 V-PPI-3S by G1537 PREP the works G2041 N-GPN of the law G3551 N-GSM , but G3362 by G1223 PREP the faith G4102 N-GSF of Jesus G2424 N-GSM Christ G5547 N-GSM , even G2532 CONJ we G2249 P-1NP have believed G4100 V-AAI-1P in G1519 PREP Jesus G2424 N-ASM Christ G5547 N-ASM , that G2443 CONJ we might be justified G1344 V-APS-1P by G1537 PREP the faith G4102 N-GSF of Christ G5547 N-GSM , and G2532 CONJ not G3756 PRT-N by G1537 PREP the works G2041 N-GPN of the law G3551 N-GSM : for G1360 CONJ by G1537 PREP the works G2041 N-GPN of the law G3551 N-GSM shall no G3756 PRT-N flesh G4561 N-NSF be justified G1344 V-FPI-3S .
17 But G1161 CONJ if G1487 COND , while we seek G2212 V-PAP-NPM to be justified G1344 V-APN by G1722 PREP Christ G5547 N-DSM , we G846 P-NPM ourselves also G2532 CONJ are found G2147 V-API-1P sinners G268 A-NPM , is therefore G687 PRT-I Christ G5547 N-NSM the minister G1249 N-NSM of sin G266 N-GSF ? God forbid G1096 V-2ADO-3S .
18 For G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND I build G3618 V-PAI-1S again G3825 ADV the things G5023 D-APN which G3739 R-APN I destroyed G2647 V-AAI-1S , I make G4921 V-PAI-1S myself G1683 F-1ASM a transgressor G3848 N-ASM .
19 For G1063 CONJ I G1473 P-1NS through G1223 PREP the law G3551 N-GSM am dead G599 V-2AAI-1S to the law G3551 N-DSM , that G2443 CONJ I might live G2198 V-AAS-1S unto God G2316 N-DSM .
20 I am crucified with G4957 V-RPI-1S Christ G5547 N-DSM : nevertheless G1161 CONJ I live G2198 V-PAI-1S ; yet not G3765 ADV I G1473 P-1NS , but G1161 CONJ Christ G5547 N-NSM liveth G2198 V-PAI-3S in G1722 PREP me G1698 P-1DS : and G1161 CONJ the life which G3739 R-ASN I now G3568 ADV live G2198 V-PAI-1S in G1722 PREP the flesh G4561 N-DSF I live G2198 V-PAI-1S by G1722 PREP the faith G4102 N-DSF of G3588 T-DSF the G3588 T-GSM Son G5207 N-GSM of God G2316 N-GSM , who loved G25 V-AAP-GSM me G3165 P-1AS , and G2532 CONJ gave G3860 V-2AAP-GSM himself G1438 F-3ASM for G5228 PREP me G1700 P-1GS .
21 I do not G3756 PRT-N frustrate G114 V-PAI-1S the G3588 T-ASF grace G5485 N-ASF of God G2316 N-GSM : for G1063 CONJ if G1487 COND righteousness G1343 N-NSF come by G1223 PREP the law G3551 N-GSM , then G686 PRT Christ G5547 N-NSM is dead G599 V-2AAI-3S in vain G1432 ADV .
