1. The heads of the fathers' houses of the family group of the sons of Gilead the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of the sons of Joseph, came near. They spoke in front of Moses and the leaders, the heads of the fathers' houses of the people of Israel.

1. And the chief H7218 fathers H1 of the families H4940 of the children H1121 of Gilead H1568 , the son H1121 of Machir H4353 , the son H1121 of Manasseh H4519 , of the families H4480 H4940 of the sons H1121 of Joseph H3130 , came near H7126 , and spoke H1696 before H6440 Moses H4872 , and before H6440 the princes H5387 , the chief H7218 fathers H1 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 :

2. They said, "The Lord told my lord to give the land to the people of Israel by drawing names. And my lord was told by the Lord to give the land of our brother Zelophehad to his daughters.

2. And they said H559 , The LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 my lord H113 to give H5414 H853 the land H776 for an inheritance H5159 by lot H1486 to the children H1121 of Israel H3478 : and my lord H113 was commanded H6680 by the LORD H3068 to give H5414 H853 the inheritance H5159 of Zelophehad H6765 our brother H251 unto his daughters H1323 .

3. But if they marry one of the sons of the other family groups of Israel, then their land would be taken away from what was given to our fathers and would be added to the land of the family group they marry into. So it would be taken from the land that had been given to us.

3. And if they be married H1961 H802 to any H259 of the sons H4480 H1121 of the other tribes H7626 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , then shall their inheritance H5159 be taken H1639 from the inheritance H4480 H5159 of our fathers H1 , and shall be put H3254 to H5921 the inheritance H5159 of the tribe H4294 whereunto H834 they are received H1961 : so shall it be taken H1639 from the lot H4480 H1486 of our inheritance H5159 .

4. When the Year of Jubilee of the people of Israel comes, their land will be added to the land of the family group into which they marry. So their land will be taken from the land of the family group of our fathers."

4. And when H518 the jubilee H3104 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall be H1961 , then shall their inheritance H5159 be put H3254 unto H5921 the inheritance H5159 of the tribe H4294 whereunto H834 they are received H1961 : so shall their inheritance H5159 be taken away H1639 from the inheritance H4480 H5159 of the tribe H4294 of our fathers H1 .

5. Then Moses told the people of Israel what the Lord said. He said, "The family group of the sons of Joseph are right in what they say.
|
5. And Moses H4872 commanded H6680 H853 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 according to H5921 the word H6310 of the LORD H3068 , saying H559 , The tribe H4294 of the sons H1121 of Joseph H3130 hath said H1696 well H3651 .

6. This is what the Lord has said about the daughters of Zelophehad: 'Let them marry whom they think best. Only they must marry within the family group of their father.'

6. This H2088 is the thing H1697 which H834 the LORD H3068 doth command H6680 concerning the daughters H1323 of Zelophehad H6765 , saying H559 , Let them marry H1961 H802 to whom they think best H2896 H5869 ; only H389 to the family H4940 of the tribe H4294 of their father H1 shall they marry H1961 H802 .

7. This way no land of the people of Israel will go from one family group to another. The people of Israel will each hold to the land of the family group of his fathers.
|
7. So shall not H3808 the inheritance H5159 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 remove H5437 from tribe H4480 H4294 to H413 tribe H4294 : for H3588 every one H376 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall keep H1692 himself to the inheritance H5159 of the tribe H4294 of his fathers H1 .

8. Every daughter who comes to own the land of any family group of Israel, must be the wife of one of her father's family group. So every one of the people of Israel may own the land of his fathers.

8. And every H3605 daughter H1323 , that possesseth H3423 an inheritance H5159 in any tribe H4480 H4294 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 , shall be H1961 wife H802 unto one H259 of the family H4480 H4940 of the tribe H4294 of her father H1 , that H4616 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 may enjoy H3423 every man H376 the inheritance H5159 of his fathers H1 .

9. No land will go from one family group to another. For the families of Israel will each hold to his own land."

9. Neither H3808 shall the inheritance H5159 remove H5437 from one tribe H4480 H4294 to another H312 tribe H4294 ; but H3588 every one H376 of the tribes H4294 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 shall keep H1692 himself to his own inheritance H5159 .

10. The daughters of Zelophehad did just as the Lord had told Moses.
|
10. Even as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 H853 Moses H4872 , so H3651 did H6213 the daughters H1323 of Zelophehad H6765 :
|
|
11. Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, married sons of their father's brothers.
|
11. For Mahlah H4244 , Tirzah H8656 , and Hoglah H2295 , and Milcah H4435 , and Noah H5270 , the daughters H1323 of Zelophehad H6765 , were married H1961 H802 unto their father's brothers H1730 ' sons H1121 :

12. They married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph. And their land stayed with their father's family group.
|
12. And they were married H1961 H802 into the families H4480 H4940 of the sons H1121 of Manasseh H4519 the son H1121 of Joseph H3130 , and their inheritance H5159 remained H1961 in H5921 the tribe H4294 of the family H4940 of their father H1 .
|
|
13. These are the Laws which the Lord told the people of Israel through Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
|
13. These H428 are the commandments H4687 and the judgments H4941 , which H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 by the hand H3027 of Moses H4872 unto H413 the children H1121 of Israel H3478 in the plains H6160 of Moab H4124 by H5921 Jordan H3383 near Jericho H3405 .
