1. At that time Jesus passed through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick and eat some heads of grain.

2. But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!"

3. He said to them, "Haven't you read what David did when he and those who were with him were hungry--

4. how he entered the house of God, and they ate the sacred bread, which is not lawful for him or for those with him to eat, but only for the priests?
|
4. 5. Or haven't you read in the Law that on Sabbath days the priests in the temple violate the Sabbath and are innocent?
|
5. Or G2228 have ye not G3756 read G314 in G1722 the G3588 law G3551 , how G3754 that on the G3588 sabbath days G4521 the G3588 priests G2409 in G1722 the G3588 temple G2411 profane G953 the G3588 sabbath G4521 , and G2532 are G1526 blameless G338

6. But I tell you that something greater than the temple is here!
|
6. But G1161 I say G3004 unto you G5213 , That G3754 in this place G5602 is G2076 one greater G3187 than the G3588 temple G2411 .
|
|
7. If you had known what this means: I desire mercy and not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the innocent.
|
7. But G1161 if G1487 ye had known G1097 what G5101 this meaneth G2076 , I will G2309 have mercy G1656 , and G2532 not G3756 sacrifice G2378 , ye would not G3756 have condemned G2613 the G3588 guiltless G338 .

|
8. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."

9. Moving on from there, He entered their synagogue.
|

10. There He saw a man who had a paralyzed hand. And in order to accuse Him they asked Him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?"
|

11. But He said to them, "What man among you, if he had a sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, wouldn't take hold of it and lift it out?
|

12. A man is worth far more than a sheep, so it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath."

13. Then He told the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out, and it was restored, as good as the other.

14. But the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him.
|

|
|
15. When Jesus became aware of this, He withdrew from there. Huge crowds followed Him, and He healed them all.

15. But G1161 when Jesus G2424 knew G1097 it, he withdrew G402 himself from thence G1564 : and G2532 great G4183 multitudes G3793 followed G190 him G846 , and G2532 he healed G2323 them G846 all G3956 ;

|
16. He warned them not to make Him known,
|
16. And G2532 charged G2008 them G846 that G2443 they should not G3361 make G4160 him G846 known G5318 :

|
17. so that what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:

17. That G3704 it might be fulfilled G4137 which was spoken G4483 by G1223 Isaiah G2268 the G3588 prophet G4396 , saying G3004 ,

|
18. Here is My Servant whom I have chosen, My beloved in whom My soul delights; I will put My Spirit on Him, and He will proclaim justice to the nations.
|
18. Behold G2400 my G3450 servant G3816 , whom G3739 I have chosen G140 ; my G3450 beloved G27 , in G1519 whom G3739 my G1519 soul G5590 is well pleased G2106 : I will put G5087 my G3450 spirit G4151 upon G1909 him G846 , and G2532 he shall show G518 judgment G2920 to the G3588 Gentiles G1484 .

19. He will not argue or shout, and no one will hear His voice in the streets.
|

|
20. He will not break a bruised reed, and He will not put out a smoldering wick, until He has led justice to victory.
|

21. The nations will put their hope in His name.
|
21. And G2532 in G1722 his G846 name G3686 shall the Gentiles G1484 trust G1679 .
|
|
22. Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and unable to speak was brought to Him. He healed him, so that the man could both speak and see.
|
22. Then G5119 was brought G4374 unto him G846 one possessed with a devil G1139 , blind G5185 , and G2532 dumb G2974 : and G2532 he healed G2323 him G846 , insomuch that G5620 the G3588 blind G5185 and G2532 dumb G2974 both G2532 spake G2980 and G2532 saw G191 .

23. And all the crowds were astounded and said, "Perhaps this is the Son of David!"
|

24. When the Pharisees heard this, they said, "The man drives out demons only by Beelzebul, the ruler of the demons."
|
24. But G1161 when the G3588 Pharisees G5330 heard G191 it, they said G2036 , This G3778 fellow doth not G3756 cast out G1544 devils G1140 , but G1508 by G1722 Beelzebub G954 the prince G758 of the G3588 devils G1140 .

25. Knowing their thoughts, He told them: "Every kingdom divided against itself is headed for destruction, and no city or house divided against itself will stand.
|
25. And G1161 Jesus G2424 knew G1492 their G846 thoughts G1761 , and said G2036 unto them G846 , Every G3956 kingdom G932 divided G3307 against G2596 itself G1438 is brought to desolation G2049 ; and G2532 every G3956 city G4172 or G2228 house G3614 divided G3307 against G2596 itself G1438 shall not G3756 stand G2476 :

26. If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand?
|
26. And G2532 if G1487 Satan G4567 cast out G1544 Satan G4567 , he is divided G3307 against G1909 himself G1438 ; how G4459 shall then G3767 his G846 kingdom G932 stand G2476 ?

|
27. And if I drive out demons by Beelzebul, who is it your sons drive them out by? For this reason they will be your judges.
|
27. And G2532 if G1487 I G1473 by G1722 Beelzebub G954 cast out G1544 devils G1140 , by G1722 whom G5101 do your G5216 children G5207 cast them out G1544 ? therefore G1223 G5124 they G846 shall be G2071 your G5216 judges G2923 .

28. If I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come to you.
|
28. But G1161 if G1487 I G1473 cast out G1544 devils G1140 by G1722 the Spirit G4151 of God G2316 , then G686 the G3588 kingdom G932 of God G2316 is come G5348 unto G1909 you G5209 .

|
29. How can someone enter a strong man's house and steal his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.
|
29. Or else G2228 how G4459 can G1410 one G5100 enter G1525 into G1519 a strong man G2478 's house G3614 , and G2532 spoil G1283 his G846 goods G4632 , except G3362 he first G4412 bind G1210 the G3588 strong man G2478 and G2532 then G5119 he will spoil G1283 his G846 house G3614 .

30. Anyone who is not with Me is against Me, and anyone who does not gather with Me scatters.
|
30. He that is G5607 not G3361 with G3326 me G1700 is G2076 against G2596 me G1700 ; and G2532 he that gathereth G4863 not G3361 with G3326 me G1700 scattereth abroad G4650 .

|
31. Because of this, I tell you, people will be forgiven every sin and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
|
31. Wherefore G1223 G5124 I say G3004 unto you G5213 , All manner G3956 of sin G266 and G2532 blasphemy G988 shall be forgiven G863 unto men G444 : but G1161 the G3588 blasphemy G988 against the G3588 Holy Ghost G4151 shall not G3756 be forgiven G863 unto men G444 .

32. Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him. But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the one to come.
|

33. "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.
|

34. Brood of vipers! How can you speak good things when you are evil? For the mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.
|
34. O generation G1081 of vipers G2191 , how G4459 can G1410 ye, being G5607 evil G4190 , speak G2980 good things G18 ? for G1063 out G1537 of the G3588 abundance G4051 of the G3588 heart G2588 the G3588 mouth G4750 speaketh G2980 .

35. A good man produces good things from his storeroom of good, and an evil man produces evil things from his storeroom of evil.
|
35. A good G18 man G444 out G1537 of the G3588 good G18 treasure G2344 of the G3588 heart G2588 bringeth forth G1544 good things G18 : and G2532 an evil G4190 man G444 out of G1537 the G3588 evil G4190 treasure G2344 bringeth forth G1544 evil things G4190 .

36. I tell you that on the day of judgment people will have to account for every careless word they speak.
|

37. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned."
|

38. Then some of the scribes and Pharisees said to Him, "Teacher, we want to see a sign from You."
|

39. But He answered them, "An evil and adulterous generation demands a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.
|

40. For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.
|
40. 41. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah's proclamation; and look-- something greater than Jonah is here!
|
41. The men G435 of Nineveh G3536 shall rise G450 in G1722 judgment G2920 with G3326 this G5026 generation G1074 , and G2532 shall condemn G2632 it G846 : because G3754 they repented G3340 at G1519 the G3588 preaching G2782 of Jonah G2495 ; and G2532 , behold G2400 , a greater G4119 than Jonah G2495 is here G5602 .

42. The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look-- something greater than Solomon is here!
|
42. 43. "When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it roams through waterless places looking for rest but doesn't find any.
|
43. When G3752 the G3588 unclean G169 spirit G4151 is gone G1831 out of G575 a man G444 , he walketh G1330 through G1223 dry G504 places G5117 , seeking G2212 rest G372 , and G2532 findeth G2147 none G3756 .

44. Then it says, 'I'll go back to my house that I came from.' And when it arrives, it finds the house vacant, swept, and put in order.

45. Then off it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that man's last condition is worse than the first. That's how it will also be with this evil generation."

Even so G3779 shall it be G2071 also G2532 unto this G5026 wicked G4190 generation G1074 .

46. He was still speaking to the crowds when suddenly His mother and brothers were standing outside wanting to speak to Him.
|

47. Someone told Him, "Look, Your mother and Your brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to You."

48. But He replied to the one who told Him, "Who is My mother and who are My brothers?"

49. And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, "Here are My mother and My brothers!

50. For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven, that person is My brother and sister and mother."
