2. All these blessings will come and overtake you, because you obey the LORD your God:

3. You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.

4. Your descendants will be blessed, and your soil's produce, and the offspring of your livestock, including the young of your herds and the newborn of your flocks.

7. "The LORD will cause the enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you. They will march out against you from one direction but flee from you in seven directions.

8. The LORD will grant you a blessing on your storehouses and on everything you do; He will bless you in the land the LORD your God is giving you.

9. The LORD will establish you as His holy people, as He swore to you, if you obey the commands of the LORD your God and walk in His ways.

10. Then all the peoples of the earth will see that you are called by the LORD's name, and they will stand in awe of you.

11. The LORD will make you prosper abundantly with children, the offspring of your livestock, and your soil's produce in the land the LORD swore to your fathers to give you.

12. The LORD will open for you His abundant storehouse, the sky, to give your land rain in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations, but you will not borrow.

13. The LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you will only move upward and never downward if you listen to the LORD your God's commands I am giving you today and are careful to follow them.

14. Do not turn aside to the right or the left from all the things I am commanding you today, and do not go after other gods to worship them.

15. "But if you do not obey the LORD your God by carefully following all His commands and statutes I am giving you today, all these curses will come and overtake you:

16. You will be cursed in the city and cursed in the country.

20. The LORD will send against you curses, confusion, and rebuke in everything you do until you are destroyed and quickly perish, because of the wickedness of your actions in abandoning Me.

21. The LORD will make pestilence cling to you until He has exterminated you from the land you are entering to possess.

22. The LORD will afflict you with wasting disease, fever, inflammation, burning heat, drought, blight, and mildew; these will pursue you until you perish.

23. The sky above you will be bronze, and the earth beneath you iron.

24. The LORD will turn the rain of your land into falling dust; it will descend on you from the sky until you are destroyed.

25. The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies. You will march out against them from one direction but flee from them in seven directions. You will be an object of horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

26. Your corpses will be food for all the birds of the sky and the wild animals of the land, and no one will scare them away.

27. "The LORD will afflict you with the boils of Egypt, tumors, a festering rash, and scabies, from which you cannot be cured.

28. The LORD will afflict you with madness, blindness, and mental confusion,

29. so that at noon you will grope as a blind man gropes in the dark. You will not be successful in anything you do. You will only be oppressed and robbed continually, and no one will help you.

30. You will become engaged to a woman, but another man will rape her. You will build a house but not live in it. You will plant a vineyard but not enjoy its fruit.

31. Your ox will be slaughtered before your eyes, but you will not eat any of it. Your donkey will be taken away from you and not returned to you. Your flock will be given to your enemies, and no one will help you.

32. Your sons and daughters will be given to another people, while your eyes grow weary looking for them every day. But you will be powerless to do anything.

33. A people you don't know will eat your soil's produce and everything you have labored for. You will only be oppressed and crushed continually.
|
33. The fruit H6529 of thy land H127 , and all H3605 thy labors H3018 , shall a nation H5971 which H834 thou knowest H3045 not H3808 eat up H398 ; and thou shalt be H1961 only H7535 oppressed H6231 and crushed H7533 always H3605 H3117 :

34. You will be driven mad by what you see.
|
34. So that thou shalt be H1961 mad H7696 for the sight H4480 H4758 of thine eyes H5869 which H834 thou shalt see H7200 .
|
|
35. The LORD will afflict you on your knees and thighs with painful and incurable boils from the sole of your foot to the top of your head.
|
35. The LORD H3068 shall smite H5221 thee in H5921 the knees H1290 , and in H5921 the legs H7785 , with a sore H7451 botch H7822 that H834 cannot H3201 H3808 be healed H7495 , from the sole H4480 H3709 of thy foot H7272 unto H5704 the top of thy head H6936 .

36. "The LORD will bring you and your king that you have appointed to a nation neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you will worship other gods, of wood and stone.
|

37. You will become an object of horror, scorn, and ridicule among all the peoples where the LORD will drive you.
|
37. And thou shalt become H1961 an astonishment H8047 , a proverb H4912 , and a byword H8148 , among all H3605 nations H5971 whither H834 H8033 the LORD H3068 shall lead H5090 thee.
|
|
38. "You will sow much seed in the field but harvest little, because locusts will devour it.
|
38. Thou shalt carry much seed out H3318 H7227 H2233 into the field H7704 , and shalt gather but little in H622 H4592 ; for H3588 the locust H697 shall consume H2628 it.
|
|
39. You will plant and cultivate vineyards but not drink the wine or gather the grapes, because worms will eat them.
|
39. Thou shalt plant H5193 vineyards H3754 , and dress H5647 them , but shalt neither H3808 drink H8354 of the wine H3196 , nor H3808 gather H103 the grapes ; for H3588 the worms H8438 shall eat H398 them.
|
|
40. You will have olives trees throughout your territory but not anoint yourself with oil, because your olives will drop off.
|
40. Thou shalt have H1961 olive trees H2132 throughout all H3605 thy coasts H1366 , but thou shalt not H3808 anoint H5480 thyself with the oil H8081 ; for H3588 thine olive H2132 shall cast H5394 his fruit .
|
|
41. You will father sons and daughters, but they will not remain yours, because they will be taken prisoner.
|
41. Thou shalt beget H3205 sons H1121 and daughters H1323 , but thou shalt not H3808 enjoy H1961 them; for H3588 they shall go H1980 into captivity H7628 .
|
|
42. Whirring insects will take possession of all your trees and your land's produce.
|
42. All H3605 thy trees H6086 and fruit H6529 of thy land H127 shall the locust H6767 consume H3423 .
|
|
43. The foreign resident among you will rise higher and higher above you, while you sink lower and lower.
|
43. The stranger H1616 that H834 is within H7130 thee shall get up H5927 above H5921 thee very high H4605 H4605 ; and thou H859 shalt come down H3381 very low H4295 H4295 .
|
|
44. He will lend to you, but you won't lend to him. He will be the head, and you will be the tail.
|
44. He H1931 shall lend H3867 to thee , and thou H859 shalt not H3808 lend H3867 to him: he H1931 shall be H1961 the head H7218 , and thou H859 shalt be H1961 the tail H2180 .
|
|
45. "All these curses will come, pursue, and overtake you until you are destroyed, since you did not obey the LORD your God and keep the commands and statutes He gave you.
|
45. Moreover all H3605 these H428 curses H7045 shall come H935 upon H5921 thee , and shall pursue H7291 thee , and overtake H5381 thee, till H5704 thou be destroyed H8045 ; because H3588 thou hearkenedst H8085 not H3808 unto the voice H6963 of the LORD H3068 thy God H430 , to keep H8104 his commandments H4687 and his statutes H2708 which H834 he commanded H6680 thee:

46. These curses will be a sign and a wonder against you and your descendants forever.
|
46. And they shall be H1961 upon thee for a sign H226 and for a wonder H4159 , and upon thy seed H2233 forever H5704 H5769 .
|
|
47. Because you didn't serve the LORD your God with joy and a cheerful heart, even though you had an abundance of everything,
|
47. Because H8478 H834 thou servedst H5647 not H3808 H853 the LORD H3068 thy God H430 with joyfulness H8057 , and with gladness H2898 of heart H3824 , for the abundance H4480 H7230 of all H3605 things ;

|
48. you will serve your enemies the LORD will send against you, in famine, thirst, nakedness, and a lack of everything. He will place an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.
|
48. 49. The LORD will bring a nation from far away, from the ends of the earth, to swoop down on you like an eagle, a nation whose language you don't understand,

49. The LORD H3068 shall bring H5375 a nation H1471 against H5921 thee from far H4480 H7350 , from the end H4480 H7097 of the earth H776 , as swift as H834 the eagle H5404 flieth H1675 ; a nation H1471 whose H834 tongue H3956 thou shalt not H3808 understand H8085 ;

50. a ruthless nation, showing no respect for the old and not sparing the young.
|
50. A nation H1471 of fierce H5794 countenance H6440 , which H834 shall not H3808 regard H5375 the person H6440 of the old H2205 , nor H3808 show favor H2603 to the young H5288 :
|
|
51. They will eat the offspring of your livestock and your soil's produce until you are destroyed. They will leave you no grain, new wine, oil, young of your herds, or newborn of your flocks until they cause you to perish.
|
51. And he shall eat H398 the fruit H6529 of thy cattle H929 , and the fruit H6529 of thy land H127 , until H5704 thou be destroyed H8045 : which H834 also shall not H3808 leave H7604 thee either corn H1715 , wine H8492 , or oil H3323 , or the increase H7698 of thy kine H504 , or flocks H6251 of thy sheep H6629 , until H5704 he have destroyed H6 thee.

52. They will besiege you within all your gates until your high and fortified walls, that you trust in, come down throughout your land. They will besiege you within all your gates throughout the land the LORD your God has given you.
|
52. 53. "You will eat your children, the flesh of your sons and daughters the LORD your God has given you during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you.
|
53. 54. The most sensitive and refined man among you will look grudgingly at his brother, the wife he embraces, and the rest of his children,
|
54. So that the man H376 that is tender H7390 among you , and very H3966 delicate H6028 , his eye H5869 shall be evil H7489 toward his brother H251 , and toward the wife H802 of his bosom H2436 , and toward the remnant H3499 of his children H1121 which H834 he shall leave H3498 :

55. refusing to share with any of them his children's flesh that he will eat because he has nothing left during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you in all your towns.
|

56. The most sensitive and refined woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her refinement and sensitivity, will begrudge the husband she embraces, her son, and her daughter,
|
56. The tender H7390 and delicate woman H6028 among you, which H834 would not H3808 adventure H5254 to set H3322 the sole H3709 of her foot H7272 upon H5921 the ground H776 for delicateness H4480 H6026 and tenderness H4480 H7391 , her eye H5869 shall be evil H7489 toward the husband H376 of her bosom H2436 , and toward her son H1121 , and toward her daughter H1323 ,

57. the afterbirth that comes out from between her legs and the children she bears, because she will secretly eat them for lack of anything else during the siege and hardship your enemy imposes on you within your gates.

58. "If you are not careful to obey all the words of this law, which are written in this scroll, by fearing this glorious and awesome name-- Yahweh, your God--

59. He will bring extraordinary plagues on you and your descendants, severe and lasting plagues, and terrible and chronic sicknesses.

59. Then the LORD H3068 will make H853 thy plagues H4347 wonderful H6381 , and the plagues H4347 of thy seed H2233 , even great H1419 plagues H4347 , and of long continuance H539 , and sore H7451 sicknesses H2483 , and of long continuance H539 .

60. He will afflict you again with all the diseases of Egypt, which you dreaded, and they will cling to you.
|

61. The LORD will also inflict you with every sickness and plague not recorded in the book of this law, until you are destroyed.

62. Though you were as numerous as the stars of the sky, you will be left with only a few people, because you did not obey the LORD your God.
|

63. Just as the LORD was glad to cause you to prosper and to multiply you, so He will also be glad to cause you to perish and to destroy you. You will be deported from the land you are entering to possess.

64. Then the LORD will scatter you among all peoples from one end of the earth to the other, and there you will worship other gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known.

65. You will find no peace among those nations, and there will be no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and a despondent spirit.

66. Your life will hang in doubt before you. You will be in dread night and day, never certain of survival.
