1. And the two were naked, both Adam and his wife, and were not ashamed.

2. Now the serpent was the most crafty of all the brutes on the earth, which the Lord God made, and the serpent said to the woman, Wherefore has God said, Eat not of every tree of the garden?

2. And the woman H802 said H559 unto H413 the serpent H5175 , We may eat H398 of the fruit H4480 H6529 of the trees H6086 of the garden H1588 :

3. And the woman said to the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden,

3. But of the fruit H4480 H6529 of the tree H6086 which H834 is in the midst H8432 of the garden H1588 , God H430 hath said H559 , Ye shall not H3808 eat H398 of H4480 it, neither H3808 shall ye touch H5060 it, lest H6435 ye die H4191 .

4. but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4. And the serpent H5175 said H559 unto H413 the woman H802 , Ye shall not H3808 surely die H4191 H4191 :

5. And the serpent said to the woman, Gr. ye shall not die by death Ye shall not surely die.
|
5. For H3588 God H430 doth know H3045 that H3588 in the day H3117 ye eat H398 thereof H4480 , then your eyes H5869 shall be opened H6491 , and ye shall be H1961 as gods H430 , knowing H3045 good H2896 and evil H7451 .

6. For God knew that in whatever day ye should eat of it your eyes would be opened, and ye would be as gods, knowing good and evil.

And when the woman H802 saw H7200 that H3588 the tree H6086 was good H2896 for food H3978 , and that H3588 it H1931 was pleasant H8378 to the eyes H5869 , and a tree H6086 to be desired H2530 to make one wise H7919 , she took H3947 of the fruit H4480 H6529 thereof , and did eat H398 , and gave H5414 also H1571 unto her husband H376 with H5973 her ; and he did eat H398 .

7. And the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes to look upon and beautiful to contemplate, and having taken of its fruit she ate, and she gave to her husband also with her, and they ate.

8. And the eyes of both were opened, and they perceived that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons to go round them.

9. And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the afternoon; and both Adam and his wife hid themselves from the face of the Lord God in the midst of the trees of the garden.

9. And the LORD H3068 God H430 called H7121 unto H413 Adam H121 , and said H559 unto him, Where H335 art thou?

10. And the Lord God called Adam and said to him, Adam, where art thou?

10. And he said H559 , I heard H8085 H853 thy voice H6963 in the garden H1588 , and I was afraid H3372 , because H3588 I H595 was naked H5903 ; and I hid myself H2244 .

11. And he said to him, I heard Or, the sound of thee walking thy voice as thou walkedst in the garden, and I feared because I was Gr. am naked and I hid myself.

12. And God said to him, Who told thee that thou Gr. art wast naked, unless thou hast eaten of the tree concerning which I charged thee of it alone not to eat?

12. And the man H120 said H559 , The woman H802 whom H834 thou gavest H5414 to be with H5973 me, she H1931 gave H5414 me of H4480 the tree H6086 , and I did eat H398 .

13. And Adam said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me—she gave me of the tree and I ate.

13. And the LORD H3068 God H430 said H559 unto the woman H802 , What H4100 is this H2063 that thou hast done H6213 ? And the woman H802 said H559 , The serpent H5175 beguiled H5377 me , and I did eat H398 .

14. And the Lord God said to the woman, Why hast thou done this? And the woman said, The serpent deceived me and I ate.

15. And the Lord God said to the serpent, Because thou hast done this thou art cursed above all cattle and all the brutes of the earth, on thy breast and belly thou shalt go, and thou shalt eat earth all the days of thy life.

15. And I will put H7896 enmity H342 between H996 thee and the woman H802 , and between H996 thy seed H2233 and her seed H2233 ; it H1931 shall bruise H7779 thy head H7218 , and thou H859 shalt bruise H7779 his heel H6119 .

17. And to the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy pains and thy groanings; in pain thou shalt bring forth children, and thy Gr. turning submission shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

18. And to Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and eaten of the tree concerning which I charged thee of it only not to eat—of that thou hast eaten, cursed is the ground in thy labours, in pain shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life.

21. And Adam called the name of his wife Gr. Zoe Life, because she was the mother of all living.

22. And the Lord God made for Adam and his wife garments of skin, and clothed them.

22. And the LORD H3068 God H430 said H559 , Behold H2005 , the man H120 is become H1961 as one H259 of H4480 us , to know H3045 good H2896 and evil H7451 : and now H6258 , lest H6435 he put forth H7971 his hand H3027 , and take H3947 also H1571 of the tree H4480 H6086 of life H2416 , and eat H398 , and live H2425 forever H5769 :

23. And Alex. +the Lord God said, Behold, Adam is become as one of us, to know good and evil, and now lest at any time he stretch forth his hand, and take of the tree of life and eat, and so he shall live forever—

24. So the Lord God sent him forth out of the garden of Delight to cultivate the ground out of which he was taken.

25. And he cast out Adam and caused him to dwell over against the garden of Delight, and stationed the cherubs and the fiery sword that turns about to keep the way of the tree of life.
