1. The word that came from the Lord to Jeremias in the tenth year of king Sedekias, this is the eighteenth year of king Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon.

1. In the ninth H8671 year H8141 of Zedekiah H6667 king H4428 of Judah H3063 , in the tenth H6224 month H2320 , came H935 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 and all H3605 his army H2428 against H413 Jerusalem H3389 , and they besieged H6696 it.

2. and the host of the king of Babylon had made a rampart against Jerusalem: and Jeremias was kept in the court of the prison, which is in the king’s house;

2. And in the eleventh H6249 H6240 year H8141 of Zedekiah H6667 , in the fourth H7243 month H2320 , the ninth H8672 day of the month H2320 , the city H5892 was broken up H1234 .

3. in which king Sedekias had shut him up, saying, Wherefore dost thou prophesy, saying, Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will give this city into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it;

4. and Sedekias shall by no means be delivered out of the hand of the Chaldeans, for he shall certainly be given up into the hands of the king of Babylon, and his mouth shall speak to his mouth, and his eyes shall look upon his eyes;

And it came to pass H1961 , that when H834 Zedekiah H6667 the king H4428 of Judah H3063 saw H7200 them , and all H3605 the men H376 of war H4421 , then they fled H1272 , and went forth H3318 out of H4480 the city H5892 by night H3915 , by the way H1870 of the king H4428 's garden H1588 , by the gate H8179 between H996 the two walls H2346 : and he went out H3318 the way H1870 of the plain H6160 .

5. and Sedekias shall go into Babylon, and Complut. kayieitai, adopted here dwell there?

5. But the Chaldeans H3778 ' army H2428 pursued H7291 after H310 them , and overtook H5381 H853 Zedekiah H6667 in the plains H6160 of Jericho H3405 : and when they had taken H3947 him , they brought him up H5927 to H413 Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 to Riblah H7247 in the land H776 of Hamath H2574 , where he gave H1696 judgment H4941 upon H854 him.

6. AND THE WORD OF THE LORD CAME TO JEREMIAS, SAYING,

6. Then the king H4428 of Babylon H894 slew H7819 H853 the sons H1121 of Zedekiah H6667 in Riblah H7247 before his eyes H5869 : also the king H4428 of Babylon H894 slew H7819 all H3605 the nobles H2715 of Judah H3063 .

7. Behold, Anameel the son of Salom thy father’s brother is coming to thee, saying, Buy thee my field that is in Anathoth: for thou hast the right to take it as a purchase.

7. Moreover he put out H5786 Zedekiah H6677 's eyes H5869 , and bound H631 him with chains H5178 , to carry H935 him to Babylon H894 .
|
8. So Anameel the son of Salom my father’s brother came to me into the court of the prison, and said, Buy thee my field that is in the land of Benjamin, in Anathoth: for thou hast a right to buy it, and thou art the elder. So I knew that it was the word of the Lord.

8. And the Chaldeans H3778 burned H8313 the king H4428 's house H1004 , and the houses H1004 of the people H5971 , with fire H784 , and broke down H5422 the walls H2346 of Jerusalem H3389 .

9. And I bought the field of Anameel the son of my father’s brother, and I weighed him seventeen shekels of silver.

Then H227 Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 carried away captive H1540 into Babylon H894 the remnant H3499 of the people H5971 that remained H7604 in the city H5892 , and those that fell away H5307 , that H834 fell H5307 to H5921 him , with H853 the rest H3499 of the people H5971 that remained H7604 .

10. And I wrote it in a book, and sealed it, and took the testimony of witnesses, and weighed the money in the balance.

10. But Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 left H7604 of the poor H1800 of H4480 the people H5971 , which H834 had nothing H369 H3972 , in the land H776 of Judah H3063 , and gave H5414 them vineyards H3754 and fields H3010 at the same H1931 time H3117 .

11. And I took the book of the purchase that was sealed;

11. Now Nebuchadnezzar H5019 king H4428 of Babylon H894 gave charge H6680 concerning H5921 Jeremiah H3414 to H3027 Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 , saying H559 ,

12. and I gave it to Baruch son of Nerias, son of Maasaeas, in the sight of Anameel my father’s brother’s son, and in the sight of the men that stood by and wrote in the book of the purchase, and in the sight of the Jews that were in the court of the prison.

12. Take H3947 him , and look well H5869 H7760 to H5921 him , and do H6213 him no H408 H3972 harm H7451 ; but H3588 H518 do H6213 unto H5973 him even H3651 as H834 he shall say H1696 unto H413 thee.

13. And I charged Baruch in their presence, saying, Thus saith the Lord Almighty;

13. So Nebuzaradan H5018 the captain H7227 of the guard H2876 sent H7971 , and Nebushasban H5021 , Rabsaris H7249 , and Nergal H5371 -sharezer, Rab H7248 -mag , and all H3605 the king H4428 of Babylon H894 's princes H7227 ;

14. Take this book of the purchase, and the book that has been read; and thou shalt put it into an earthen vessel, that it may remain many days.

14. Even they sent H7971 , and took H3947 H853 Jeremiah H3414 out of the court H4480 H2691 of the prison H4307 , and committed H5414 him unto H413 Gedaliah H1436 the son H1121 of Ahikam H296 the son H1121 of Shaphan H8227 , that he should carry H3318 him home H1004 : so he dwelt H3427 among H8432 the people H5971 .

15. For thus saith the Lord; There shall yet be The Alex. reading kthyhsontai, has been substituted here bought fields and houses and vineyards in this land.

15. Now the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 came H1961 unto H413 Jeremiah H3414 , while he was H1961 shut up H6113 in the court H2691 of the prison H4307 , saying H559 ,

16. And I prayed to the Lord after I had given the book of the purchase to Baruch the son of Nerias, saying,
|
16. Go H1980 and speak H559 to Ebed H5663 -melech the Ethiopian H3569 , saying H559 , Thus H3541 saith H559 the LORD H3068 of hosts H6635 , the God H430 of Israel H3478 ; Behold H2009 , I will bring H935 H853 my words H1697 upon H413 this H2063 city H5892 for evil H7451 , and not H3808 for good H2896 ; and they shall be H1961 accomplished in that H1931 day H3117 before H6440 thee.

17. O ever living Lord! thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power, and with thy high and lofty arm: nothing can be hidden from thee.

17. But I will deliver H5337 thee in that H1931 day H3117 , saith H5002 the LORD H3068 : and thou shalt not H3808 be given H5414 into the hand H3027 of the men H376 of whom H834 thou H859 art afraid H3016 H4480 H6440 .

18. Gr. doing Granting mercy to thousands, and recompensing the sins of the fathers into the bosoms of their children after them: the great, the strong God;

18. For H3588 I will surely deliver H4422 H4422 thee , and thou shalt not H3808 fall H5307 by the sword H2719 , but thy life H5315 shall be H1961 for a prey H7998 unto thee: because H3588 thou hast put thy trust H982 in me, saith H5002 the LORD H3068 .

19. the Lord of great counsel, and mighty in deeds, the great Almighty God, and Lord of great name: thine eyes are upon the ways of the children of men, to give to every one according to his way:

20. who hast wrought signs and wonders in the land of Egypt even to this day, and in Israel, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and thou didst make for thyself a name, as at this day;
|
20.
|
21. and thou didst bring out thy people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, and with wonders, with a mighty hand, and with a high arm, and with great Or, visions sights;
|
21.
|
22. and thou gavest them this land, which thou didst swear to give to their fathers, a land flowing with milk and honey;
|
22.
|
23. and they went in, and took it; but they hearkened not to thy voice, and walked not in thine ordinances; they did none of the things which thou didst command them, and they caused all these calamities to happen to them.
|

|
24. Behold, a multitude is come against the city to take it; and the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans that fight against it, by the power of the sword, and the famine: as thou hast spoken, so has it happened.
|
24.
|
25. And thou sayest to me, Buy thee the field for Lit. silver money; and I wrote a book, and sealed it, and took the testimony of witnesses: and the city is given into the hands of the Chaldeans.
|
25.
|
26. And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
|
26.
|
27. I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: shall anything be hidden from me!
|
27.
|
28. Therefore thus saith the Lord God of Israel; This city shall certainly be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it:
|
28.
|
29. and the Chaldeans shall come to war against this city, and they shall burn this city with fire, and shall burn down the houses wherein they burnt incense on the roofs thereof to Baal, and poured drink-offerings to other gods, to provoke me.
|
29.
|
30. For the children of Israel and the children of Juda alone did evil in my sight from their youth.
|
30.
|
31. For this city was obnoxious to my anger and my wrath, from the day that they built it even to this day; that I should remove it from my presence,
|
31.
|
32. because of all the wickedness of the children of Israel and Juda, which they wrought to provoke me, they and their kings, and their princes, and their priests, and their prophets, the men of Juda, and the dwellers in Jerusalem.
|
32.
|
33. And they turned the back to me, and not the face: whereas I taught them early in the morning, but they hearkened no more to receive instructions.
|
33.
|
34. And they set their pollutions in the house, on which my name was called, by their uncleannesses.
|
34.
|
35. And they built to Baal the altars that are in the valley of the son of Ennom, to offer their sons and their daughters to king Moloch; which things I commanded them Or, not to do not, neither came it into my mind that they should do this abomination, to cause Juda to sin.
|
35.
|
36. And now thus has the Lord God of Israel said concerning this city, of which thou sayest, it shall be delivered into the hands of the king of Babylon by the sword, and by famine, and banishment.
|
36.
|
37. Behold, I will gather them out of every land, where I have scattered them in my anger, and my wrath, and great fury; and I will bring them back into this place, and will cause them to dwell safely:
|
37.
|
38. and they shall be to me a people, and I will be to them a god.
|
38.
|
39. And I will give them another way, and another heart, to fear me continually, and that for good to them and their children after them.
|
39.
|
40. And I will make with them an everlasting covenant, which I will by no means turn away from them, and I will put my fear into their heart, that they may not depart from me.
|
40.
|
41. And I will visit them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, and with all my heart, and with all my soul.
|
41.
|
42. For thus saith the Lord; As I have brought upon this people all these great evils, so will I bring upon them all the good things which I pronounced upon them.
|
42.
|
43. And there shall yet be fields bought in the land, of which thou sayest, it shall be destitute of man and beast; and they are delivered into the hands of the Chaldeans.
|
43.
|
44. And they shall buy fields for Gr. silver money, and thou shalt write a book, and seal it, and shalt take the testimony of witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and round about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Juda, and in the cities of the mountain, and in the cities of the plain, and in the cities of the south: for I will turn their captivity.
