1. King Nebuchadnezzar made an object of gold which looked like a god. It was fifteen times taller than a man, and as wide as three long steps. He set it up on the plain of Dura in the land of Babylon.

2. Then Nebuchadnezzar called together all the captains, leaders, rulers, wise men, money-keepers, judges, and law-keepers of Babylon's lands. He called them to come to the first showing of the object that he had set up.

Then Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 sent H7972 to gather together H3673 the princes H324 , the governors H5460 , and the captains H6347 , the judges H148 , the treasurers H1411 , the counselors H1884 , the sheriffs H8614 , and all H3606 the rulers H7984 of the provinces H4083 , to come H858 to the dedication H2597 of the image H6755 which H1768 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 had set up H6966 .

3. So all the captains, leaders, rulers, wise men, money-keepers, judges, and law-keepers of Babylon's lands were gathered together for the special time of setting apart this object Nebuchadnezzar had set up. And they stood in front of it.

Then H116 the princes H324 , the governors H5460 , and captains H6347 , the judges H148 , the treasurers H1411 , the counselors H1884 , the sheriffs H8614 , and all H3606 the rulers H7984 of the provinces H4083 , were gathered together H3673 unto the dedication H2597 of the image H6755 that H1768 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 had set up H6966 ; and they stood H6966 before H6903 the image H6755 that H1768 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 had set up H6966 .

4. Then the man who spread news for the king said in a loud voice, "This is what you must do, O people of every nation and language:

4. Then a herald H3744 cried H7123 aloud H2429 , To you it is commanded H560 , O people H5972 , nations H524 , and languages H3961 ,

5. When you hear the sound of the horns and harps, and all kinds of music, you are to get down on your knees and worship the object of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up.

That at what H1768 time H5732 ye hear H8086 the sound H7032 of the cornet H7162 , flute H4953 , harp H7030 , sackbut H5443 , psaltery H6460 , dulcimer H5481 , and all H3606 kinds H2178 of music H2170 , ye fall down H5308 and worship H5457 the golden H1722 image H6755 that H1768 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 hath set up H6966 :

6. Whoever does not get down and worship will be thrown at once into the big and hot fire."

6. And whoso H4479 H1768 falleth not down H5308 H3809 and worshipeth H5457 shall the same hour H8160 be cast H7412 into the midst H1459 of a burning H3345 fiery H5135 furnace H861 .

7. Then all the people heard the sound of the horns and harps and all kinds of music. All the people of every nation and language got down and worshiped the object of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Therefore H3606 H6903 H1836 at that time H2166 , when H1768 all H3606 the people H5972 heard H8086 the sound H7032 of the cornet H7162 , flute H4953 , harp H7030 , sackbut H5443 , psaltery H6460 , and all H3606 kinds H2178 of music H2170 , all H3606 the people H5972 , the nations H524 , and the languages H3961 , fell down H5308 and worshiped H5457 the golden H1722 image H6755 that H1768 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 had set up H6966 .

8. At this time certain ones who learned from stars came up and spoke against the Jews.

8. Wherefore H3606 H6903 H1836 at that time H2166 certain H1400 Chaldeans H3779 came near H7127 , and accused H399 H7170 the Jews H1768 H3062 .

9. They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever!
|
9. They spoke H6032 and said H560 to the king H4430 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 , O king H4430 , live H2418 forever H5957 .

|
10. You yourself, O king, have made a law that every man who hears the sound of the horns and harps and all kinds of music is to get down on his knees and worship the object of gold.

12. There are certain Jews whom you have chosen as leaders over the land of Babylon. Their names are Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. These men have not listened to you, O king. They do not serve your gods or worship the object of gold which you have set up."

13. Then Nebuchadnezzar became very angry and called for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. And they were brought to the king.

13. Then H116 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 in his rage H7266 and fury H2528 commanded H560 to bring H858 Shadrach H7715 , Meshach H4336 , and Abed H5665 -nego. Then H116 they brought H858 these H479 men H1400 before H6925 the king H4430 .

14. Nebuchadnezzar said to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the object of gold that I have set up?

14. Nebuchadnezzar H5020 spoke H6032 and said H560 unto them, Is it true H6656 , O Shadrach H7715 , Meshach H4336 , and Abed H5665 -nego, do H383 not H3809 ye serve H6399 my gods H426 , nor H3809 worship H5457 the golden H1722 image H6755 which H1768 I have set up H6966 ?

15. Now if you are ready to get down on your knees and worship the object I have made when you hear the sound of the horns and harps and all kinds of music, very well. But if you will not worship, you will be thrown at once into the fire. And what god is able to save you from my hands?"

16. Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer to this question.

16. Shadrach H7715 , Meshach H4336 , and Abed H5665 -nego, answered H6032 and said H560 to the king H4430 , O Nebuchadnezzar H5020 , we H586 are not H3809 careful H2818 to answer H8421 thee in H5922 this H1836 matter H6600 .

17. If we are thrown into the fire, our God Whom we serve is able to save us from it. And He will save us from your hand, O king.

17. If H2006 it be H383 so , our God H426 whom H1768 we H586 serve H6399 is able H3202 to deliver H7804 us from H4481 the burning H3345 fiery H5135 furnace H861 , and he will deliver H7804 us out of H4481 thine hand H3028 , O king H4430 .

18. But even if He does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the object of gold that you have set up."

19. Then Nebuchadnezzar was filled with anger, and he looked at Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego with an angry face. He had the fire made seven times hotter than it was.

20. And he told certain powerful soldiers in his army to tie up Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, and to throw them into the fire.

20. And he commanded H560 the most mighty H1401 H2429 men H1400 that H1768 were in his army H2429 to bind H3729 Shadrach H7715 , Meshach H4336 , and Abed H5665 -nego, and to cast H7412 them into the burning H3345 fiery H5135 furnace H861 .

21. So the men were tied up in their coats and head-coverings and their other clothes, and were thrown into the fire.

21. Then H116 these H479 men H1400 were bound H3729 in their coats H5622 , their hosen H6361 , and their hats H3737 , and their other garments H3831 , and were cast H7412 into the midst H1459 of the burning H3345 fiery H5135 furnace H861 .

22. Because the king had spoken that the fire was to be very hot, those men who put Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego into the fire were killed by the fire.

22. Therefore H3606 H6903 H1836 because H4481 H1768 the king H4430 's commandment H4406 was urgent H2685 , and the furnace H861 exceeding H3493 hot H228 , the flame H7631 of H1768 the fire H5135 slew H6992 those H479 men H1400 that H1768 took up H5267 Shadrach H7715 , Meshach H4336 , and Abed H5665 -nego.

23. The three men were still tied up when they fell into the fire.

23. And these H479 three H8532 men H1400 , Shadrach H7715 , Meshach H4336 , and Abed H5665 -nego , fell down H5308 bound H3729 into the midst H1459 of the burning H3345 fiery H5135 furnace H861 .

24. Then King Nebuchadnezzar was very surprised and stood up in a hurry. He said to his leaders, "Did we not throw three men who were tied up into the fire?" They answered, "That is true, O king."

Then H116 Nebuchadnezzar H5020 the king H4430 was astonished H8429 , and rose up H6966 in haste H927 , and spoke H6032 , and said H560 unto his counselors H1907 , Did not H3809 we cast H7412 three H8532 men H1400 bound H3729 into the midst H1459 of the fire H5135 ? 25. He said, "Look! I see four men loose and walking about in the fire without being hurt! And the fourth one looks like a son of the gods (or the Son of God)!"

26. Then Nebuchadnezzar came near the door where the fire was burning, and said, "Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!" So Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego came out of the fire.

27. The captains, leaders, rulers, and the king's important men gathered around and saw that the fire had not hurt the bodies of these three men. Their hair was not burned. Their clothes were not burned. They did not even smell like fire.

And the princes H324 , governors H5460 , and captains H6347 , and the king H4430 's counselors H1907 , being gathered together H3673 , saw H2370 these H479 men H1400 , upon whose H1768 bodies H1655 the fire H5135 had no power H7981 H3809 , nor H3809 was a hair H8177 of their head H7217 singed H2761 , neither H3809 were their coats H5622 changed H8133 , nor H3809 the smell H7382 of fire H5135 had passed H5709 on them.

28. Nebuchadnezzar said, "Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. He has sent His angel and saved His servants who put their trust in Him. They changed the king's word and were ready to give up their lives instead of serving or worshiping any god except their own God.

Then Nebuchadnezzar H5020 spoke H6032 , and said H560 , Blessed H1289 be the God H426 of H1768 Shadrach H7715 , Meshach H4336 , and Abed H5665 -nego, who H1768 hath sent H7972 his angel H4398 , and delivered H7804 his servants H5649 that H1768 trusted H7365 in H5922 him , and have changed H8133 the king H4430 's word H4406 , and yielded H3052 their bodies H1655 , that H1768 they might not H3809 serve H6399 nor H3809 worship H5457 any H3606 god H426 , except H3861 their own God H426 .

29. So I now make a law that if any people of any nation or language say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego, they will be torn apart and their houses will be laid waste. For there is no other god who is able to save in this way."

30. Then the king made Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego very important in the land of Babylon.
