3. Tell them, 'This is what the Lord God says to Jerusalem: "Your beginning and your birth are from the land of the Canaanite. Your father was an Amorite and your mother was a Hittite.

3. And say H559 , Thus H3541 saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 unto Jerusalem H3389 ; Thy birth H4351 and thy nativity H4138 is of the land H4480 H776 of Canaan H3669 ; thy father H1 was an Amorite H567 , and thy mother H517 a Hittite H2851 .

4. On the day you were born the cord between you and your mother was not cut. You were not washed with water to make you clean. You were not rubbed with salt or even covered with cloth.

5. No one looked with pity on you or did any of these things for you out of loving-kindness. Instead you were thrown out into the open field, for you were hated on the day you were born.

6. "When I passed by you and saw you rolling about in your blood, I said to you in your blood, 'Live!' Yes, I said to you while you were in your blood, 'Live!'

7. I made you become many, like plants of the field. Then you grew up and became tall. You grew into a beautiful woman. You had breasts and your hair had grown. Yet you were not covered and your body could be seen.

8. Then I passed by you and saw that you were old enough for love. So I spread my clothing over you and covered your body. I gave you my promise and made an agreement with you so that you became Mine," says the Lord God.

9. "Then I washed you with water, washed the blood from you, and poured oil on you.
|

10. I dressed you with beautiful cloth, and put leather shoes on your feet. I dressed you with fine linen and covered you with silk.

11. I put on you objects of beauty. I put beautiful objects on your arms and around your neck.

|
12. I put rings in your nose and in your ears, and a beautiful crown on your head.
|

|
13. So you were dressed with gold and silver. Your clothing was of fine linen, silk, and beautiful cloth. You ate fine flour, honey, and oil. So you were very beautiful, and you became a queen.
|
13. 14. Your name became known among the nations because of your beauty. For it was perfect because of My shining-greatness which I had given to you," says the Lord God.

14. And thy renown H8034 went forth H3318 among the heathen H1471 for thy beauty H3308 : for H3588 it H1931 was perfect H3632 through my comeliness H1926 , which H834 I had put H7760 upon H5921 thee, saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 .

15. "But you trusted in your beauty. Because your name was well-known, you acted like a woman who sells the use of her body. And you did sex sins with anyone who passed by.
|
15. But thou didst trust H982 in thine own beauty H3308 , and playedst the harlot H2181 because H5921 of thy renown H8034 , and pouredst out H8210 H853 thy fornications H8457 on H5921 every one H3605 that passed by H5674 ; his it was H1961 .

16. You took some of your clothes of many colors and made for yourself places of worship. There you acted like a woman who sells the use of her body. Such things should never happen or come to pass.
|

17. You also took your objects of beauty made of My gold and silver, which I had given you. And you used them to make things that looked like men, that you might play with them as a woman who sells the use of her body.

18. Then you took your beautiful cloth and covered them, and set My oil and My special perfume in front of them.

|
19. You also set in front of them My bread which I gave you, the fine flour, oil and honey I gave you to eat. You gave it all to them as a special perfume. So it was," says the Lord God.

20. "You even took your sons and daughters whom you had given birth for Me, and gave them to the false gods to be destroyed. Were your sex sins too little?

21. You killed My children and gave them as burnt gifts to false gods.

|
|
22. And in all your hated acts and sex sins you did not remember the days when you were young. You did not remember when you were without clothing or covering, and when you rolled about in your blood.
|
22. And in all H3605 thine abominations H8441 and thy whoredoms H8457 thou hast not H3808 remembered H2142 H853 the days H3117 of thy youth H5271 , when thou wast H1961 naked H5903 and bare H6181 , and wast H1961 polluted H947 in thy blood H1818 .

23. "It is bad for you!" says the Lord God. "After all your sinful acts,
|
23. And it came to pass H1961 after H310 all H3605 thy wickedness H7451 , ( woe H188 , woe H188 unto thee! saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 ;)

24. you built a place of worship for yourself, and a high place in every street.
|
24. That thou hast also built H1129 unto thee an eminent place H1354 , and hast made H6213 thee a high place H7413 in every H3605 street H7339 .
|
|
25. You built yourself a high place at the beginning of every street and made your beauty a hated thing. You gave yourself to anyone who passed by, to make your sex sins many.
|
25. Thou hast built H1129 thy high place H7413 at H413 every H3605 head H7218 of the way H1870 , and hast made H853 thy beauty H3308 to be abhorred H8581 , and hast opened H6589 H853 thy feet H7272 to every one H3605 that passed by H5674 , and multiplied H7235 H853 thy whoredoms H8457 .

26. You also gave the use of your body to the Egyptians, your neighbors who have much desire for sex sins. And you sinned many times to make Me angry.
|
26. Thou hast also committed fornication H2181 with H413 the Egyptians H1121 H4714 thy neighbors H7934 , great H1432 of flesh H1320 ; and hast increased H7235 H853 thy whoredoms H8457 , to provoke me to anger H3707 .

27. So I have raised My hand to punish you and have made your share smaller. I have given you over to the desire of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were ashamed of your sinful actions.

Behold H2009 , therefore I have stretched out H5186 my hand H3027 over H5921 thee , and have diminished H1639 thine ordinary H2706 food , and delivered H5414 thee unto the will H5315 of them that hate H8130 thee , the daughters H1323 of the Philistines H6430 , which are ashamed H3637 of thy lewd H2154 way H4480 H1870 .

28. You also gave the use of your body to the Assyrians because you had not had enough. Yes, you even gave the use of your body to them and still thought you had not had enough.

28. Thou hast played the whore H2181 also with H413 the Assyrians H1121 H804 , because thou wast unsatiable H4480 H1115 H7654 ; yea , thou hast played the harlot H2181 with them , and yet H1571 couldest not H3808 be satisfied H7646 .

29. You did many sex sins with Babylon, the land of those who trade. Yet even this was not enough for you.
|
29. Thou hast moreover multiplied H7235 H853 thy fornication H8457 in H413 the land H776 of Canaan H3667 unto Chaldea H3778 ; and yet H1571 thou wast not H3808 satisfied H7646 herewith H2063 .

|
30. "How sinful your heart is," says the Lord God, "that you do all these things, the actions of a sinful woman, and show no shame.
|
30. How H4100 weak H535 is thine heart H3826 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 , seeing thou doest H6213 H853 all H3605 these H428 things , the work H4639 of an imperious H7986 whorish H2181 woman H802 ;

31. You built your places of worship at the beginning of every street and made your high place at every crossing. But you were not like a woman who sells the use of her body, because you did not want pay.
|
31. In that thou buildest H1129 thine eminent place H1354 in the head H7218 of every H3605 way H1870 , and makest H6213 thine high place H7413 in every H3605 street H7339 ; and hast not H3808 been H1961 as a harlot H2181 , in that thou scornest H7046 hire H868 ;

32. You are like a wife who is not faithful and has strangers instead of her husband!
|
32. But as a wife H802 that committeth adultery H5003 , which taketh H3947 H853 strangers H2114 instead H8478 of her husband H376 !
|
|
33. Men give gifts to all women who sell the use of their body. But you give your gifts to all your lovers. You pay them to come to you from everywhere for your sex sins.
|
33. They give H5414 gifts H5078 to all H3605 whores H2181 : but thou H859 givest H5414 H853 thy gifts H5083 to all H3605 thy lovers H157 , and hirest H7809 them , that they may come H935 unto H413 thee on every side H4480 H5439 for thy whoredom H8457 .

34. You are different from other women in your sex sins. You go after men; they do not come to you. You pay men instead of them giving pay to you. Yes, you are different."

35. So, sinful woman, hear the Word of the Lord.
|
35. Wherefore H3651 , O harlot H2181 , hear H8085 the word H1697 of the LORD H3068 :

36. The Lord God says, "Your shame was poured out and your clothing was taken off because of your sex sins with your lovers and with all your hated false gods. And you killed your children and gave them to false gods. Because of these things,

Thus H3541 saith H559 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 ; Because H3282 thy filthiness H5178 was poured out H8210 , and thy nakedness H6172 discovered H1540 through thy whoredoms H8457 with H5921 thy lovers H157 , and with H5921 all H3605 the idols H1544 of thy abominations H8441 , and by the blood H1818 of thy children H1121 , which H834 thou didst give H5414 unto them;

37. I will gather all your lovers who pleased you. I will gather all those whom you loved and all those whom you hated. I will gather them against you from every side, and take off your covering so that they may see all your shame.
|
37. 38. I will punish you as I punish women who are not faithful in marriage, or women who kill. I will do it in My anger and jealousy.
|
38. And I will judge H8199 thee , as women that break wedlock H5003 and shed H8210 blood H1818 are judged H4941 ; and I will give H5414 thee blood H1818 in fury H2534 and jealousy H7068 .
|
|
39. And I will give you over to your lovers. They will tear down your places of worship and destroy your high places. They will take all of your clothes and your beautiful objects, and will leave you without any covering.
|
39. And I will also give H5414 thee into their hand H3027 , and they shall throw down H2040 thine eminent place H1354 , and shall break down H5422 thy high places H7413 : they shall strip H6584 thee also of thy clothes H899 , and shall take H3947 thy fair H8597 jewels H3627 , and leave H5117 thee naked H5903 and bare H6181 .

40. They will bring up a group of people against you, and they will kill you with stones and cut you to pieces with their swords.
|
40. They shall also bring up H5927 a company H6951 against H5921 thee , and they shall stone H7275 thee with stones H68 , and thrust thee through H1333 with their swords H2719 .
|
|
41. They will burn your houses with fire and punish you as many women watch. Then I will stop you from acting like a woman who sells the use of her body, and you will no longer pay your lovers.
|
41. And they shall burn H8313 thine houses H1004 with fire H784 , and execute H6213 judgments H8201 upon thee in the sight H5869 of many H7227 women H802 : and I will cause thee to cease H7673 from playing the harlot H4480 H2181 , and thou also H1571 shalt give H5414 no H3808 hire H868 any more H5750 .

42. Then I will take away My anger from you, and My jealousy will leave you. I will be at peace, and will not be angry any more.
|
42. So will I make my fury H2534 toward thee to rest H5117 , and my jealousy H7068 shall depart H5493 from H4480 thee , and I will be quiet H8252 , and will be no H3808 more H5750 angry H3707 .

|
43. You have not remembered the days when you were young, but have made Me angry with all these things. So I will punish you for what you have done," says the Lord God. "Did you not add these sex sins to all your other hated sins?

43. 44. "Every one who uses sayings will use this saying about you: 'Like mother, like daughter.'
|
44. Behold H2009 , every one H3605 that useth proverbs H4911 shall use this proverb H4911 against H5921 thee, saying H559 , As is the mother H517 , so is her daughter H1323 .
|
|
45. You are the daughter of your mother, who hated her husband and her children. You are also a sister of your sisters who hated their husbands and children. Your mother was a Hittite and your father was an Amorite.
|
45. Thou H859 art thy mother H517 's daughter H1323 , that loatheth H1602 her husband H376 and her children H1121 ; and thou H859 art the sister H269 of thy sisters H269 , which H834 loathed H1602 their husbands H376 and their children H1121 : your mother H517 was a Hittite H2851 , and your father H1 an Amorite H567 .

46. Your older sister is Samaria, who lives north of you with her daughters. And your younger sister is Sodom, who lives south of you with her daughters.
|
46. And thine elder H1419 sister H269 is Samaria H8111 , she H1931 and her daughters H1323 that dwell H3427 at H5921 thy left hand H8040 : and thy younger H6996 sister H269 , that dwelleth H3427 at thy right hand H4480 H3225 , is Sodom H5467 and her daughters H1323 .

47. Yet you have walked in their ways and done their hated acts. As if that were too little, you acted worse in all your ways than they.
|
47. Yet hast thou not H3808 walked H1980 after their ways H1870 , nor done H6213 after their abominations H8441 : but , as if that were a very H6985 little H4592 thing , thou wast corrupted H7843 more than H4480 they in all H3605 thy ways H1870 .

|
48. As I live," says the Lord God, "your sister Sodom and her daughters have not done as you and your daughters have done.
|
48. As I H589 live H2416 , saith H5002 the Lord H136 GOD H3069 , Sodom H5467 thy sister H269 hath not H518 done H6213 , she H1931 nor her daughters H1323 , as H834 thou hast done H6213 , thou H859 and thy daughters H1323 .

|
49. Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters had pride, much food, and too much rest, but she did not help those who were poor and in need.
|
49. Behold H2009 , this H2088 was H1961 the iniquity H5771 of thy sister H269 Sodom H5467 , pride H1347 , fullness H7653 of bread H3899 , and abundance H7962 of idleness H8252 was H1961 in her and in her daughters H1323 , neither H3808 did she strengthen H2388 the hand H3027 of the poor H6041 and needy H34 .

50. They were proud and did hated sins in front of Me. So I took them away when I saw it.
|
50. And they were haughty H1361 , and committed H6213 abomination H8441 before H6440 me : therefore I took them away H5493 H853 as H834 I saw H7200 good .
|
|
51. Samaria has not done half of your sins. You have done more sins than they. So you have made your sisters look right and good by all the hated sins which you have done.
|
51. Neither H3808 hath Samaria H8111 committed H2398 half H2677 of thy sins H2403 ; but thou hast multiplied H7235 H853 thine abominations H8441 more than H4480 they , and hast justified H6663 H853 thy sisters H269 in all H3605 thine abominations H8441 which H834 thou hast done H6213 .

52. Take your shame upon you, for you have made Me show favor to them in their punishment. Because of your sins in which you acted worse than they, they are more in the right than you. So then be ashamed and take your shame upon you, for you have made your sisters look right and good.
|
52. 53. "I will return them to their land, both Sodom and her daughters, and Samaria and her daughters. With them I will return you to your land.
|
53. When I shall bring again H7725 H853 their captivity H7622 , H853 the captivity H7622 of Sodom H5467 and her daughters H1323 , and the captivity H7622 of Samaria H8111 and her daughters H1323 , then will I bring again the captivity H7622 of thy captives H7622 in the midst H8432 of them:

54. This is so you will take your shame upon you, and feel ashamed for all that you have done in becoming a comfort to them.
|

55. Your sisters, Sodom with her daughters and Samaria with her daughters, will return to the land they had before. And you with your daughters will return to your land also.

56. You did not speak against your sister Sodom in the days of your pride,
|
56. For thy sister H269 Sodom H5467 was H1961 not H3808 mentioned H8052 by thy mouth H6310 in the day H3117 of thy pride H1347 ,
|
|
57. before your sinful acts were seen. Now you have become like her, an object of shame for the daughters of Edom and all her neighbors, and for the daughters of the Philistines. All those around you who hate you now look on you with shame.
|
57. Before H2962 thy wickedness H7451 was discovered H1540 , as at H3644 the time H6256 of thy reproach H2781 of the daughters H1323 of Syria H758 , and all H3605 that are round about H5439 her , the daughters H1323 of the Philistines H6430 , which despise H7590 thee round about H4480 H5439 .

58. The penalty of your sex sins and other hated sins has come upon you," says the Lord.

59. For the Lord God says, "I will do with you as you have done, because you have hated your promise by breaking the agreement.
|

60. "But I will remember My agreement which I made with you when you were young. And I will make an agreement with you that lasts forever.
|
60. Nevertheless I H589 will remember H2142 H853 my covenant H1285 with H854 thee with thee in the days H3117 of thy youth H5271 , and I will establish H6965 unto thee an everlasting H5769 covenant H1285 .
|
|
61. Then you will remember your ways and be ashamed when you receive your sisters, both your older one and younger one. I will give them to you as daughters, but not because of your agreement with Me.
|
61. Then thou shalt remember H2142 H853 thy ways H1870 , and be ashamed H3637 , when thou shalt receive H3947 H853 thy sisters H269 , thine elder H1419 and thy younger H6996 : and I will give H5414 them unto thee for daughters H1323 , but not H3808 by thy covenant H4480 H1285 .

62. So I will make My agreement with you, and you will know that I am the Lord.
|

|
63. Then you will remember and be ashamed. You will never open your mouth again because of your shame, when I have forgiven you for all that you have done," says the Lord God.
