2. at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, and said to them, "The LORD commanded, through Moses, that cities be given us to dwell in, with pasture lands for our livestock."

2. And they spoke H1696 unto H413 them at Shiloh H7887 in the land H776 of Canaan H3667 , saying H559 , The LORD H3068 commanded H6680 by the hand H3027 of Moses H4872 to give H5414 us cities H5892 to dwell H3427 in , with the suburbs H4054 thereof for our cattle H929 .

3. Out of their own heritage, in obedience to this command of the LORD, the Israelites gave the Levites the following cities with their pasture lands.

3. And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 gave H5414 unto the Levites H3881 out of their inheritance H4480 H5159 , at H413 the commandment H6310 of the LORD H3068 , H853 these H428 cities H5892 and their suburbs H4054 .

4. When the first lot among the Levites fell to the clans of the Kohathites, the descendants of Aaron the priest obtained thirteen cities by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin.
|
4. And the lot H1486 came out H3318 for the families H4940 of the Kohathites H6956 : and the children H1121 of Aaron H175 the priest H3548 , which were of H4480 the Levites H3881 , had H1961 by lot H1486 out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Judah H3063 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Simeon H8099 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Benjamin H1144 , thirteen H7969 H6240 cities H5892 .

5. The rest of the Kohathites obtained ten cities by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh.

5. And the rest H3498 of the children H1121 of Kohath H6955 had by lot H1486 out of the families H4480 H4940 of the tribe H4294 of Ephraim H669 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Dan H1835 , and out of the half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 , ten H6235 cities H5892 .

6. The Gershonites obtained thirteen cities by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh.

6. And the children H1121 of Gershon H1648 had by lot H1486 out of the families H4480 H4940 of the tribe H4294 of Issachar H3485 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Asher H836 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Naphtali H5321 , and out of the half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 in Bashan H1316 , thirteen H7969 H6240 cities H5892 .

7. The clans of the Merarites obtained twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
|
7. The children H1121 of Merari H4847 by their families H4940 had out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Reuben H7205 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Gad H1410 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Zebulun H2074 , twelve H8147 H6240 cities H5892 .

8. These cities with their pasture lands the Israelites allotted to the Levites in obedience to the LORD'S command through Moses.
|
8. And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 gave H5414 by lot H1486 unto the Levites H3881 H853 these H428 cities H5892 with H854 their suburbs H4054 , as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 by the hand H3027 of Moses H4872 .

9. From the tribes of the Judahites and Simeonites they designated the following cities,

9. And they gave H5414 out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of the children H1121 of Judah H3063 , and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of the children H1121 of Simeon H8095 , H853 these H428 cities H5892 which H834 are here mentioned H7121 by name H8034 ,

10. and assigned them to the descendants of Aaron in the Kohathite clan of the Levites, since the first lot fell to them:

10. Which the children H1121 of Aaron H175 , being of the families H4480 H4940 of the Kohathites H6956 , who were of the children H4480 H1121 of Levi H3878 , had H1961 : for H3588 theirs was H1961 the first H7223 lot H1486 .

11. first, Kiriath-arba (Arba was the father of Anak), that is, Hebron, in the mountain region of Judah, with the adjacent pasture lands,

11. And they gave H5414 them H853 the city H7151 of Arba H704 the father H1 of Anak H6061 , which H1931 city is Hebron H2275 , in the hill H2022 country of Judah H3063 , with H854 the suburbs H4054 thereof round about H5439 it.

12. although the open country and villages belonging to the city had been given to Caleb, son of Jephunneh, as his property.

12. But the fields H7704 of the city H5892 , and the villages H2691 thereof, gave H5414 they to Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh H3312 for his possession H272 .

13. Thus to the descendants of Aaron the priest were given the city of asylum for homicides at Hebron, with its pasture lands; also, Libnah with its pasture lands,

14. And Jattir H3492 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and Eshtemoa H851 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,

|
15. Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,
|
15. And Holon H2473 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and Debir H1688 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,
|
|
16. Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasture lands: nine cities from the two tribes mentioned.
|
16. And Ain H5871 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and Juttah H3194 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and H853 Beth H1053 -shemesh with H854 her suburbs H4054 ; nine H8672 cities H5892 out of H4480 H854 those H428 two H8147 tribes H7626 .

17. From the tribe of Benjamin they obtained the four cities of Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,

17. And out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Benjamin H1144 , H853 Gibeon H1391 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , H853 Geba H1387 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,

|
18. Anathoth with its pasture lands, and Almon with its pasture lands.
|

|
19. These cities which with their pasture lands belonged to the priestly descendants of Aaron, were thirteen in all.

|
|
20. The rest of the Kohathite clans among the Levites obtained by lot, from the tribe of Ephraim, four cities.

20. And the families H4940 of the children H1121 of Kohath H6955 , the Levites H3881 which remained H3498 of the children H4480 H1121 of Kohath H6955 , even they had H1961 the cities H5892 of their lot H1486 out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Ephraim H669 .

21. They were assigned, with its pasture lands, the city of asylum for homicides at Shechem in the mountain region of Ephraim; also Gezer with its pasture lands,

21. For they gave H5414 them H853 Shechem H7927 with H854 her suburbs H4054 in mount H2022 Ephraim H669 , to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer H7523 ; and Gezer H1507 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,

|
22. Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-horon with its pasture lands.

23. From the tribe of Dan they obtained the four cities of Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,

23. And out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Dan H1835 , H853 Eltekeh H514 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , H853 Gibbethon H1405 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,

|
24. Aijalon with its pasture lands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands;
|
24. H853 Aijalon H357 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , H853 Gath H1667 -rimmon with H854 her suburbs H4054 ; four H702 cities H5892 .

25. and from the half-tribe of Manasseh the two cities of Taanach with its pasture lands and Ibleam with its pasture lands.

25. And out of the half H4480 H4276 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 , H853 Tanach H8590 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and Gath H1667 -rimmon with H854 her suburbs H4054 ; two H8147 cities H5892 .

26. These cities which with their pasture lands belonged to the rest of the Kohathite clans were ten in all.

27. The Gershonite clan of the Levites received from the half-tribe of Manasseh two cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Golan, with its pasture lands; and also Beth-ashtaroth with its pasture lands.

27. And unto the children H1121 of Gershon H1648 , of the families H4480 H4940 of the Levites H3881 , out of the other half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 they gave H853 Golan H1474 in Bashan H1316 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer H7523 ; and Beesh H1203 -terah with H854 her suburbs H4054 ; two H8147 cities H5892 .

28. From the tribe of Issachar they obtained the four cities of Kishion with its pasture lands, Daberath with its pasture lands,

29. Jarmuth with its pasture lands, and En-gannim with its pasture lands; from the tribe of Asher,

30. the four cities of Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,

31. Helkath with its pasture lands, and Rehob with its pasture lands;

32. and from the tribe of Naphtali, three cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Kedesh in Galilee, with its pasture lands; also Hammath with its pasture lands, and Rakkath with its pasture lands.

And out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Naphtali H5321 , H853 Kedesh H6943 in Galilee H1551 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer H7523 ; and Hammoth H2576 -dor with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and Kartan H7178 with her suburbs H4054 ; three H7969 cities H5892 .

33. These cities which with their pasture lands belonged to the Gershonite clans were thirteen in all.

34. The Merarite clans, the last of the Levites, received from the tribe of Zebulun the four cities of Jokneam with its pasture lands, Kartah with its pasture lands,

34. And unto the families H4940 of the children H1121 of Merari H4847 , the rest H3498 of the Levites H3881 , out of H4480 H854 the tribe H4294 of Zebulun H2074 , H853 Jokneam H3362 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and H853 Kartah H7177 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,

35. Rimmon with its pasture lands, and Nahalal with its pasture lands;

36. also, across the Jordan, from the tribe of Reuben, four cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Bezer with its pasture lands, Jahaz with its pasture lands,

36. And out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Reuben H7205 , H853 Bezer H1221 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , and Jahazah H3096 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,

|
37. Kedemoth with its pasture lands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands;
|

38. and from the tribe of Gad a total of four cities: the city of asylum for homicides at Ramoth in Gilead with its pasture lands, also Mahanaim with its pasture lands,

38. And out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Gad H1410 , H853 Ramoth H7216 in Gilead H1568 with H854 her suburbs H4054 , to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer H7523 ; and Mahanaim H4266 with H854 her suburbs H4054 ,

39. Heshbon with its pasture lands, and Jazer with its pasture lands.

40. The cities which were allotted to the Merarite clans, the last of the Levites, were therefore twelve in all.

40. So all H3605 the cities H5892 for the children H1121 of Merari H4847 by their families H4940 , which were remaining H3498 of the families H4480 H4940 of the Levites H3881 , were H1961 by their lot H1486 twelve H8147 H6240 cities H5892 .

|
41. Thus the total number of cities within the territory of the Israelites which, with their pasture lands, belonged to the Levites, was forty-eight.
|
41. All H3605 the cities H5892 of the Levites H3881 within H8432 the possession H272 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were forty H705 and eight H8083 cities H5892 with their suburbs H4054 .
|
|
42. With each and every one of these cities went the pasture lands round about it.
|
42. These H428 cities H5892 were H1961 every one H5892 H5892 with their suburbs H4054 round about H5439 them: thus H3651 were all H3605 these H428 cities H5892 .
|
|
43. And so the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to their fathers he would give them. Once they had conquered and occupied it,

43. And the LORD H3068 gave H5414 unto Israel H3478 H853 all H3605 the land H776 which H834 he swore H7650 to give H5414 unto their fathers H1 ; and they possessed H3423 it , and dwelt H3427 therein.

44. the LORD gave them peace on every side, just as he had promised their fathers. Not one of their enemies could withstand them; the LORD brought all their enemies under their power.

45. Not a single promise that the LORD made to the house of Israel was broken; every one was fulfilled.
